Miranda IM 0.5 Preview Release 5

Posted in Fun Stuff, Site News, Web Apps, Windows

Miranda IM

Fed up with using so many applications at once to connect up to several networks? I reckon most of us would have MSN Messenger (now, the latest known as Windows Live Messenger, which an extremely resource hungry application), Yahoo Messenger (the latest news about its collaboration with MSN Messenger so that users from both networks can cross-chat), ICQ (or AOL), Skype, GoogleTalk, Jabber…. and so on. Imagine running all those softwares at the same time, and they are sure to run your system resources dry in no time. Why not get a all-in-one application?

Introducing Miranda IM (Internet Messaging) client, which is a multi protocol instant messenger client for Windows. Miranda IM uses very little memory and works very fast. Available in a small size file, it can even be stored in a single floppy drive (though I know nowadays, who would really use floppy drives; USB thumb drive perhaps). If you do not realise, Miranda IM has over 350 free plugins available for download, and users can customise it to their own preferences.

Foxit Reader 1.3 – Free Ultra-Lightweight PDF Reader

Posted in Utilities, Windows

Foxit Reader

With Adobe dumping so many functionalities into the latest Adobe Reader, it has almost become such a heavy application for a PDF (Portable Document Format) Reader. It just doesn’t make sense with so many plug-ins embedded inside Adobe Reader, without really requiring them to read a simple PDF file.

Time to put aside those over 5MB size of Acrobat Reader, and try out Foxit Reader 1.3, an extremely lightweight PDF Reader, and the download size is just over 1MB.

Alcohol 1.9.5.4212 – CD and DVD Emulation Software

Posted in Miscellaneous, Software Companies, Utilities, Windows

Alcohol

The name may sounds strangely related to fermented drinks, but rest assured that there is nothing for you to drink here. Alcohol is a multimedia software that allows you to record and emulate CDs and DVDs into one single program, which is so easy to use.

So, what exactly does it do?

Imagine being able to store your most used CDs as images on your computer and just call them up at the click of a button! And then run them at 200x the speed of some CD drives and without requiring the CD itself! How about being able to make a backup of that CD onto another CD either using the CD itself or just using the image you have created? This is what Alcohol allows you to do and much more.
