ZoneAlarm Firewall

I believe this is not one that is unfamilar to users. However, there are several people whom I talked to, actually do not even install a firewall in their computers, believing by installing an Antivirus program will take them real far enough to have their systems fully protected.

For all Windows XP users, all of Microsoft XP editions come with their own Firewall, which is seemingly adequate for most users, but unfortunately lacked the flexibility to configure them. Any version before Windows XP, however, do not have the luxury of being protected by intrusions and hackers, attempting to have your private information and data protected. Antivirus programs mere protects against malicious attacks from viruses and trojans, whereas firewall, is like an immigration counter at the boundary of your PC monitoring the inflow and outflow of traffic, ensuring that when data passes through are really sufficiently safe. Furthermore, some firewalls offers additional support to guard against softwares (unauthentic) which may be submitting your personal data out to the internet, i.e. credit cards, passwords.

The recommendation I have here, is ZoneAlarm Firewall. There are several versions from ZoneLabs, i.e. ZoneAlarm Internet Security, ZoneAlarm Pro, ZoneAlarm Anti- Spyware, IMSecure Pro and ZoneAlarm. Other than ZoneAlarm, all others require a license, which means it’s not free.

Having tested out ZoneAlarm myself, I find that despite being having the most limited and basic stuffs in functionality, compared to ZoneAlarm Pro, ZoneAlarm has the utmost quality service in protecting systems against intrusion and malicious attacks. Basically, according to the website, ZoneAlarm is free for individual and not-for-profit charitable entity use (excluding governmental entities and educational institutions).

System Requirement:

  • Windows 98SE/ME/2000 Pro/XP.
  • Pentium III 450 MHz or higher.
  • 50MB of available hard disk space.
  • Internet access.
  • Minimum system RAM: 48MB (98SE/ME), 64MB (2000 Pro), 128MB (XP).

For those who are still without a firewall, I recommend you to download it from here immediately.
