Avvenu – Remote access to your Computer from Anywhere

Posted in Utilities, Web Apps, Windows

Are you banging your head against the wall having to carry your laptop from home to work every day, just because there is data in your laptop and you can’t connect it from home. Alternatively, do you wish you could access your office desktop PC from home, but unable to do so, because your PC resides behind corporate network, and possibly behind the NAT server or firewall? For all but nothing, Avvenu develops a software that allows you to access your Office PC remotely, via a browser.

Avvenu is the FREE new service that allows you to remotely access multiple computers from around the corner or around the world instantly. Avvenu also integrates with mobile devices that gives users secure access to any document or image on the computer, regardless of file size or type. There is typically a fast response time, as users will be connecting directly to the PC.

In addition, it is possible to upload or download any files or folders to or from the remote computer, with secure access. The software faciliates folder or file sharing with other Avvenu users and guests (non-Avvenu users). There is administration control for users that allow configuration on who gets access and for how long. To do so, guests need only click on the link sent by e-mail from authorising users. Once again, such service is FREE.

Installation is a breeze, takes less than 2 minutes to install on your host computer. Once installed, the program runs under an agent. Once done, the computer is set up for remote access almost instantly.

Personally, I find that this is a beauty of many softwares, especially for computers which function behind network and firewall. In addition, there is no file size restrictions when uploading or downloading. However, it is important to note that though the connection is via HTTPS (Secure HTTP Authentication), it requires an Avvenu server to function as the main gateway for all remote computers. So, whether Avvenu promises to ensure our data is secured from the private eyes, it’s another question yet to be answered. I would advise for professional users belonging to government or high security profile not to use this, as this may compromise the data in your PC. In general, the software is a total convenience. So, there is a trade-off between security and ease of use.

Avvenu is free for download here.
