Google Desktop

If you have been enjoying the service from the infamous Google Desktop, you might want to know that Google Desktop 4 Beta is now available. Having used Google Desktop Beta myself for the past couple of months, besides its powerful searching capability based on indexing algorithm, one of the thing which happened to be so common that is lacking in the last Google Desktop application is the “Check for Update” command. However, that doesn’t really bother me much as a matter of fact.

For those who are new to this small yet powerful application, Google Desktop is a free application developed by Google, which provides easy access to information on your computer and from the web. Some will claim it as a desktop searching software.

However, that is very true. It provides full text search over emails, files, music, photos, chats, Gmail accounts, web pages and even more. The way you try to search for these stuffs on your computer or from the web has never been easier if it is not for Google Desktop. It can appear as a Sidebar, Deskbar or a Floating Deskbar, catered to users’ preference. However, I perceive that most users would prefer using it as a Sidebar instead.

These are the New Features implemented in Google Desktop 4 Beta:

  • * Google Gadgets
  • * Richer Google integration
  • * Personalize your desktop
  • * Other New Features

Google Gadgets – These interactive mini-applications can be anything from games to search tools to media players, and they can be any shape and size. They are ready-made and available, but for some you can build them yourself.

Richer Google integration – Google has integrated Google Desktop more closely with Google features, such as Google Calendar, or Google Video.

Personalize Your Desktop – Google Desktop will recommend new gadgets and can also automatically create a personalized Google homepage for you based on the subjects you’re most interested in.

Other New Features – Improved indexing, allowing easy addition of content to your web clips gadget, and removing deleted files from search results.

There are a whole lot of new features and functionalities in this release. Download the Google Desktop Beta 4 today. The application will require Windows XP or at least Windows 2000 SP 3+ to run.
