Similar to the Google Desktop, Microsoft has developed its very own Windows Desktop Search for users require fast searching on PC. However, unlike to the former, it does not have that many widgets and plugins at the moment.

The Microsoft Windows Desktop Search is capable of fast searching on PC by using indexing technology, allowing users to find documents, email, music, photos, files and many other items. The search engine in Windows Desktop Search (WDS) 3.0 is a Windows service that can be integrated to be used with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and Office OneNote 2007 to index application content and deliver instant results when searching within an application.

Change Log:

  • • This release is an Engine Preview of WDS 3.0 Beta. It contains the WDS 3.0 engine only and is meant to support searching from desktop applications such as Microsoft Office Outlook and OneNote 2007.

System Requirement:

  • Microsoft Windows XP SP1 operating system or Windows Server 2003 or Windows 2000 SP4 (Install the latest Windows 2000 Service Pack). 64 bit Windows is not supported
  • • Requires Microsoft Outlook 2000+ or Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0+ to index and search your email
  • • Full preview of Microsoft Office documents in Desktop Search results only available for Microsoft Office XP or later
  • Pentium 500MHz processor or better (1GHz recommended)
  • • Minimum 128MB of RAM (256MB recommended)
  • • Recommended — 500MB of hard disk space. Your index size depends on how much content you have on your hard drive
  • 1024 x 768 screen resolution recommended
