Paint.Net 2.63 – Photo Editing Program

This is a follow-up of the previous article on Paint.NET v2.5 RC 1. Designed and developed at Washington State University with guidance from Microsoft, Paint.NET, a student project programmed in C# and GDI+, is a photo and image editing tool designed for computers running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000. Currently it is maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it.

Bringing powerful features to the desktop, such includes a myriad of special effects, plug-in extensibility, and layer manipulation, to enhance the image editing process. Digital photographers and artists can enhance their images with features and effects such as levels adjustment, cross-layer cloning, anti-aliased tools, motion blur, and red eye removal.

Some Change Log

  • * Built-in updater now works in Vista without having to use “Run as Administrator” beforehand (UAC permission is still required to install updates)
  • * Fixed a color intensity calculation that had Red and Blue swapped (affects Brightness/Contrast adjustment, and some plugins)
  • * Fixed .PDN images with transparency having a black background in their Explorer thumbnail
  • * Fixed crash when an image has bizarre DPI settings (such as 6 billion DPI)
  • * Fixed crash when an image has an invalid resolution unit specified (neither pixels, inches, nor centimeters)
  • * Fixed a few rare race conditions which resulted in crashes
  • * Fixed a rare crash with the history
  • * Fixed crashlog being created when the updates dialog appears over another modal dialog
  • * Fixed crashlog not reporting application version with certain damaged installations
  • * Placed a clickable Windows Live OneCare ad in the Setup wizard

Minimum System Requirement

  • * Windows XP (SP1 or later), Windows 2000 (SP3 or later), Windows Server 2003, or Windows Vista
  • * .NET Framework 2.0
  • * 400 MHz processor (Recommended: 800 MHz or faster)
  • * 128 MB RAM (Recommended: 512 MB or more)
  • * 1024 x 768 screen resolution
  • * 50+ MB hard drive space
  • * 64-bit support requires a 64-bit CPU that is running an x64 or Itanium edition of Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, and 256 MB RAM
