The renowned Ethereal has decided to have a new name, called the Wireshark. Wireshark is the world’s most popular network protocol analyzer.

The name might be new, but the software is the same. Wireshark’s powerful features make it the tool of choice for network troubleshooting, protocol development, and education worldwide.

As an open source, Wireshark was written by several networking experts and it runs on many different platforms, such as Windows and Linux.

Well, so why did Ethereal decide to change its name. The creator of Ethereal, Gerald Combs, has accepted to join CACE Technologies and thus, the acceptance initiates the move for a new name for the networking project, thus named Wireshark.

The pre-release build for Windows and source codes are available for download here.
