Gnome Partition Editor (GParted) 0.2.5 – Hard Disk Partition Manager

Posted in Linux, Mac OS, Solaris, Utilities, Windows

Gnome Partition Editor

This is to introduce you the Gnome Partition Editor (GParted), one that you would need to use while trying to partition your hard disk drive, similar to Partition Magic, if you know what the latter.

Gparted allows you to take the hard disk drive and partition the drive into several partitions, at the same time, preserving the content that was written on the hard disk.

GParted is an industrial-strength package for creating, destroying, resizing, checking and copying partitions, and the file systems on them. This is useful for creating space for new operating systems, reorganizing disk usage, copying data residing on hard disks and mirroring one partition with another (disk imaging).

Available as source code, you can compile them yourself. Or, you may also try the LiveCD and the LiveUSB editions, which can be downloaded below.

Note that, it is important to check out what filesystems are supported from the Feature site. For instance, some partitions, such as ext2 and ext3 cannot be moved.

The Partition Manager is superb. The sise is also attractive. It must eleminate the requirement of Partition Magic. I surprised that it even not asked for a backup. It is very nice, cute and ………
It is even good for detecting graphics drivers where seveal M$ OS can not etect graphics and wants for driver, this tiny app find all hardware i use (Appx 25 type) till this review.
Again, it cannot be compaired with Partition Magic, where i fails 2 times but this never fail after starting using this.

THIS IS MOST RELIABLE as per my knowledge till this review.

    Thanks for the Job.

How do I install either “gparted-live-0.4.1-2.iso” or “gparted-0.4.2.tar.bz2″?

I have a PC with 18 gb HD running Win2000, with C, D & E partitioned drives. I want to remove a partition to get two drives of 8 & 10 gig each.

I’ve downloaded “gparted-live-0.4.1-2.iso” from http://sourceforge.net/, but I can’t work out how to get it started. Opening it opens WinRAR but extracting the files and folders does not extract any exe files or anything that can get Gnome Partition Editor running. The site had a message to burn the iso file to a CD, which I did, but, no luck.

I then downloaded “gparted-0.4.2.tar.bz2″ but, again, no luck.

How do I get it going or should I try
