Azureus Released!! – Java BitTorrent Client

Posted in Development Software, Mac OS, Solaris, Web Apps, Windows

Finally, after a long awaiting moment for Azureus, the next version of Azureus has finally released just three days ago. Azureus is one of the most popular Bittorrent clients software to creep into the home of BitTorrent users. As BitTorrent is becoming more and more popular among peer-to-peer (P2P) users, there are a wide spread of new bitTorrent softwares developed for BitTorrent use. Some other BitTorrent clients include uTorrent and BitComet.

Unlike uTorrent and BitComet, Azureus is a Java-based BitTorrent client. The current release of Azureus features an embedded tracker which can be easily set up. As Azureus is Java-based, it is platform-independent. However, Java Run-time Environment (JRE) virtual machine is required to run Azureus.

Features of Azureus

  • * Multiple torrent downloads
  • * Upload and download speed limiting, both globally and per torrent
  • * Advanced seeding rules
  • * Adjustable disk cache
  • * Only uses one port for all the torrents
  • * UPnP sets the forward on your router
  • * Can use a proxy, for both tracker and peer communications
  • * Fast resume
  • * Can set a default download dir and move completed files
  • * Can import torrents automatically from a set dir
  • * Highly customizable interface
  • * IRC plugin included for quick help
