Todo Pad 1.8 Build 219

Posted in Fun Stuff, Linux, Mac OS, Site News, Solaris, Utilities, Windows

Todo Pad

How many “notepad” applications are there, really? I don’t know, probably just too much to take account for. In this post, I introduce a new application of this Todo Pad, that does the same job as a notepad.

This software is a very simple application, and there is no advanced feature, if you are wondering. Basically, there are two main components:

  1. - Tree Area
  2. - Text Area

According to the developer, it is as simple as a “Steno Note”. What’s the difference is that this is available in several platforms, including Solaris, Macintosh and FreeBSD.

Foxit 2.0 - PDF Reader

Posted in Business Software, Site News, Software Companies, Utilities, Windows

Foxit Reader

Since the last post on Foxit, the latest version of Foxit 2.0 is now released. With Adobe dumping so many functionalities into the latest Adobe Reader, it has almost become such a heavy application for a PDF (Portable Document Format) Reader. It just doesn’t make sense with so many plug-ins embedded inside Adobe Reader, without really requiring them to read a simple PDF file.

Time to put aside those over 5MB size of Acrobat Reader, and try out Foxit 2.0, an extremely lightweight PDF Reader.

Posted in Beta, Fun Stuff, Mac OS, Site News, Utilities, Web Apps

Feed

Developed by Keith Anderson, Feed 0.7b1 is a RSS Feed Reader for Macintosh. Although there are a lot of RSS readers for Mac OS X out there, including Apple adding RSS capabilities to Safari in Tiger. Unlike these RSS readers, Feed treats RSS news more like email than anything else. The current release is more of a hybrid between iTunes and a web browser.

Requirements

  • Mac OS X 10.3 or greater

There are several features in this release, such as Simple and Familiar interface; Drag-and-Drop Support; BitTorrent Enclosure; Audio Notifications; Bookmarks and Feed Organisations capability.

Note that, this latest release is a beta version and bug may still persists.

K3b 1.0 Final Released

Posted in Fun Stuff, Linux, Site News, Software Companies, Utilities

K3b

K3b 1.0 is a CD burning application. It consists of several rich features that is almost as good as that one can get from Nero Burning ROM (under Windows environment). K3b basically consists of three parts:

  1. The projects: Projects are created from the file menu and then filled with data to burn.
  2. The Tools: The tools menu offers different tools like CD copy or DVD formatting.
  3. Context sensitive media actions: When clicking on the Icon representing a CD/DVD drive K3b will present it’s contents and allow some further action. This is for example the way to rip audio CDs.

K3b has come a long way since the early days in 1998 when it started as a dummy project. The amazing feedback that this project has received from the open source community has propelled it to be what it is today.

K3b is available as a free source and can be downloaded from the link below. However, it might be easier to install K3b directly from your Linux distribution, to avoid some hassles of having to compile the source yourself.
