Democracy Player

Democracy Player seems to be capturing a lot of attention from the public. My last post on Democracy Player was probably a few months ago, but the latest version of Democracy Player 0.9.6 is already released.

Nicholas Reville claimed that this version contains huge update, with a lot of new features, bug fixes and improvement. In addition, it will also be the last version ever of Democracy Player, as the next release will be under the new name, Miro.

The most exciting new feature in this release is probably “folder watching”. It is a new preference panel that allows users to pick folders on the local computer and include the files within to the video collection. If a new video file shows up that folder, it will automatically appear in the collection. Downloaded videos on the desktop can also be watched by Democracy Player, another feature that comes with this version.

With Democracy Player, there is no more for tiny web video anymore. Users can download and watch the best Internet TV show via any video RSS feed, video podcast, video blog, or even BitTorrent file, in full screen, high resolution playback. Furthermore, Democracy Player is 100% free and open source, and with new channels coming in everyday, the Channel Guide is sure to give users that rich choice of selections.

Available in several platform, the downloads are available from the site, i.e. Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. Be sure to check out the system requirement before installing them.
