Come tomorrow, September 17, 2007, OpenOffice.org will release the latest (stable) version of OpenOffice.org 2.3.0. However, good news to all of you, the applications has already been made available for the public. This new version can be downloaded from several mirror sites, including OSUOSL.

There are several new features being introduced in this version; such as performance improvements, new charting wizard and the ability to generate Wiki pages. These information are made available from the Release Note page.


One of the main thing about OpenOffice.org is that it is the first office suite to comply with the OASIS OpenDocument format, and the source code is also available freely under the full OSI certified license.

  • Writer - Word processor.
  • Calc - Spreadsheet.
  • Impress - Multimedia presentation.
  • Draw - Creates dynamic 3D illustrations and special effects.
  • Base - Database engine.
