Drupal 6.0 Beta 2 was release last week, after some rigorous testing and correction made to fix existing bugs and security issues. One of the most notable change is that the long time favourite Drupal.module has not being moved out of the Drupal package. Instead, it will be made available as the contributed Site network module. This approach has helped to improve security in Drupal 6, and support a wider solution for distributed authentication in the form of the OpenID standard.

On top of that, a number of issues have been fixed since the first beta version. These include numerous PHP notices, upgrade of jQuery to version 1.2.1 and including a more secure solution for IN() queries. Other areas involve added schema based load and save functions, extended built-in AHAH functionality so developers can write AHAH code without JavaScript for different types of form elements, merged .schema files with .install files, made it possible for themes to override core and module CSS files and made it possible to have comment settings per node type.

Currently, the final release candidate for Drupal 6 is not yet known. However, the developers are deemed to ensure that it is completely bug-free before declaring it to be the most solid release of Drupal application of all time.
