Apefly Web Page Generator 1.0

Posted in Development Software, Fun Stuff, Site News, Utilities, Web Apps, Windows

Apefly

It should be quite apparent that what I am going to introduce here is a web page generator, known as Apefly. Generally, this application allows users to create simple, yet fully functional web pages without the need to understand or know any sophisticated HTML languages (perhaps maybe the very basic stuffs). Furthermore, it has the ability to provide an educational approach for students who are picking up web design.

Initially, Apefly began as an Online/JavaScript based web page generator. It was further enhanced to develop into simple web page generator to create clean and valid XHTML/CSS web pages. Thus, these are the following functions:

In this major release, there are much more powerful features than you might see here. A lot of improvement has been made towards this version over WordPress 2.1. Whilst this may attract a lot of attention, but it is vital to note that it is still a release candidate. Hence, bugs may still be present.

Skype for Linux 1.4 Alpha Preview

Skype Logo

Good news for Linux users. The long awaiting release for the next version of Skype for Linux is now available - Skype for Linux 1.4! As of the moment, the release is still considered under alpha development, which means it could be highly unstable. Users are welcomed to test out this development release, but it is important to note that such release is best not to be deployed in production machines.

Below are some new features:

  • * Major user interface overhaul.
  • * Audio quality has been improved.
  • * Calls are now contained in a separate window.
  • * Chat history can be loaded in time-specific increments (rather than ‘recent’ and the very slow, ‘all’)
  • * File transfers are now grouped in a common window, and similar transfers are also grouped together.
  • * Event history now contains chats and other events in addition to calls.
  • * Sound files are now located in /usr/share/skype/sounds. This directory will be configurable later, however the sound files from the original Skype 1.4 package should be placed into this directory for now.
  • * The top menu bar has been removed. You can access the Main Menu by clicking on the ‘cog wheel’ down the bottom left of the client, or by right-clicking on the system tray icon.
  • * Add/Search users can be accessed by clicking on the Green + button in the bottom-left corner.

Automatix2 1.1-3.10 for Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn

Posted in Development Software, Fun Stuff, Linux, Site News, Utilities

Automatix

Even before the official release of Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, there have been huge demand for Automatix package to be bundled in the repository. Unfortunately, during that time, Automatix only supports up to Ubuntu 6.10; support for version 7.xx has not been released. Finally, the wait is over, Automatix2, is now available for Ubuntu 7.04 users!

Other than supporting version 7.04, this latest release also comes with Crossover Office Standard and Professional on Ubuntu 7.04 amd64 (which basically means you can run a ton of 32 bit windows software on Ubuntu 7.04 amd64). I just happen to found out from the website that the CEO and Founder of Dell Inc. also uses Automatix2 on his home computer (no wonder Dell is switching to bundle their systems with Linux operating systems these days *joking*)

Nero Burning ROM

As a Windows user, it is quite likely that you (Windows users) will agree with me that Nero Burning ROM is probably one of the best, if not the best, CD burning application. Now, a Linux version has also been developed to explore the possibility of show-casing its burning capability in Linux operating systems.

Nero Linux 3 (currently under Beta development) is powered by the industry-leading Nero Burning ROM engine. It is able to record the following formats:

  • - CD
  • - DVD
  • - HD DVD
  • - Blu-ray

ExtractNow 4.39

Posted in Development Software, Fun Stuff, Site News, Software Companies, Utilities, Windows

Extract Now

Do you normally find it difficult to extract multiple archives? To make things simpler, try ExtractNow 4.39, a simple utility that allows users to extract multiple archives very quickly and easily.

The interface of the utility is rather clean and well-designed. In addition, it is easy to use. Extraction of files is a breeze, all that is needed to be done is to simply drag and drop archived files into the main program window, or right-click on the files while in the Windows Explorer.

Two particular compression formats are supported: ZIP and RAR, and also a few other formats. It is an extremely powerful, yet simple compression utility for anyone who manages these compressed files.

ASGSoft HTML Editor 2

Posted in Development Software, Fun Stuff, Site News, Utilities, Web Apps, Windows

ASGSoft HTML Editor

Developed by ASGSoft, ASGSoft HTML Editor 2 is simple program developed for people who are still interested in using the good old HTML codes to develop simple HTML Web pages.

You may not expect this to have the likes of Macromedia’s Dreaweaver, but it does have the common features of a simple HTML editor.

My first impression is that the interface reminds me of the great old Windows 95, with 16-bit colour. However, it is not the outlook that matters. The usage is breeze and instruction is pretty straight forward.

If you are just banging on a simple HTML editor to help you create your very first site, then this is probably the program you might want to explore and use. Less than 1MB, it runs on your Windows operating system. Furthermore, it is free to download for your personal usage.
