Firefox Download Day - Get Mozilla Firefox 3

Posted in Linux, Mac OS, Site News, Solaris, Web Apps, Windows

It has been announced during my previous post that Mozilla Firefox 3 will be launched today, and so it did! Right now, there are thousands of downloads going on since the news have gone public. It was phenomenologically huge traffic such that the traffic to Firefox home page was rather sluggish.

Nonetheless, this is also an on-going campaign to hit the target of achieving the largest volume of downloads within a 24 hours timeframe. Hence, good luck, Mozilla. Meanwhile, if you do support Mozilla Firefox 3, download it today.

Posted in Development Software, Linux, Mac OS, OS, Site News, Software Companies, Solaris, Web Apps, Windows

WordPressAbout two days ago, WordPress has released the security fix for WordPress 2.5 version. This release contains several bug fixes and performance enhancement. It is highly recommended for users who are using the latest major release of 2.5 milestone to upgrade immediately, as the initial public release has a security vulnerability.

The entire 2.5.1 release has over 70 fixes and performance enhancement. Some of which are as follow:

  • * Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.
  • * Better performance for those who have many categories
  • * Media Uploader fixes
  • * An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7
  • * Widget Administration fixes
  • * Various usability improvements
  • * Layout fixes for IE

Personally, I am happy to see the media uploader issue being fixed, as it has been quite an annoying issue for me for a period of time.

WordPress 2.3.2 Released

Posted in Fun Stuff, Linux, Mac OS, Site News, Solaris, Web Apps, Windows

WordPress DashBoard

WordPress 2.3.2 was released 2 days ago, barely unknown to me just right under my nose. I have been expecting it for quite some time, as the previous version released, WordPress 2.3.1, was then released more than 2 months ago.

This WordPress version provides several bugs fixes, as usual, but more noticeably, it is highly recommended to upgrade to this version. One of the main fixes is that the previous version exposes a security flaw that allows draft posts to be seen by public. Several other bug fixes and enhancements can be found here.

WordPressWordPress 2.3.1 was released in less than 24 hours ago. According to Ryan, this version contains all the bug fix and security fix for the 2.3 series of WordPress.

Some of these fixes include:

  • * Tagging support for Windows Live Writer
  • * Fixes for a login bug that affected those with a Blog Address different than their WordPress Address
  • * Faster taxonomy database queries, especially tag intersection queries
  • * Link importer fixes

If you are using 2.3 series, it is highly recommended that users upgrade to this version, as Janek Vind found that a XSS problem can be exploited if the php setup has register_globals enabled.

Posted in Beta, Business Software, Linux, Mac OS, Site News, Software Companies, Solaris, Web Apps, Windows

Drupal

Drupal 6.0 Beta 2 was release last week, after some rigorous testing and correction made to fix existing bugs and security issues. One of the most notable change is that the long time favourite Drupal.module has not being moved out of the Drupal package. Instead, it will be made available as the contributed Site network module. This approach has helped to improve security in Drupal 6, and support a wider solution for distributed authentication in the form of the OpenID standard.

It has been a long time since I provide the latest news of any latest software release. This time, I hope to introduce Skype for Linux 1.4 Gold, codename Panacea.

The choice of this codename is in contention with a Greek mythology; Paacea, daughter of Asclepius, God of Medicine, and the granddaughter of Apollo, God of Healing, is a goddess of cures. And thus, the name is chosen for this version of Skype for Linux - in compairson of the improved voice call quality.
