Vista Firefox 2 Beta v4.2 – Theme for Firefox

Posted in Beta, Graphics, Linux, Mac OS, Plugins, Windows

Vista Firefox Beta Theme

Users will not need to have Microsoft Vista in order to have Firefox theme that looks like Vista. (Check out the thumbnail on the right). Vista Firefox 2 Beta v4.2 is a theme released by solidfilter. Ever since this beta theme was released to public, a pretty huge response was received, some of which includes feedbacks and constructive bugs reports.

This new beta release has a slightly redesigned/polished theme, featuring true transparent images and buttons, with better alignment and a more full proof design that allow extensions to work seamlessly with the theme.

Despite the improvement, I still find one important feature lacking, that is the backward and forward button, do not have history lists, which are present in the default theme. I must admit I have sorely miss that fine feature. Nonetheless, this latest theme is just amazing, and you do not need to be a Windows user to use it. As long as you are running Firefox, you are eligible.

Installation Instruction

  1. Download the file below and save it to your Desktop.
  2. From the Firefox browser, click on Tools>Add ons>.
  3. Click on Themes.
  4. Click and Drag the .jar file to the Add-ons windows.
  5. The theme will automatically be installed.

After this, just set Vista Firefox 2 to be the default theme and restart Firefox. The new theme should blow your mind away!

Blog This for Firefox

Posted in Fun Stuff, Plugins, Site News, Software Companies, Utilities, Web Apps, Windows

Blog This

Following Joe Cheng’s comment on Live Writerfox 0.3, I then realised the existence of Blog This for Firefox, developed by Microsoft development team. Blog This for Firefox is a pluin (or extension) that adds a button to Firefox which starts a new Windows Live Writer blog post, prepopulated with content and title from the current web page.

Users can blog the whole page or just from selected snippets. This extension also interacts with other registered plugins to parse and structure web content where appropriate. It allows users to blog quickly about specific interesting topic without having to start any other stand-alone application.

The latest release is known to be compatible with Firefox version According to Joe Cheng, Blog This has a couple of advantages over Live Writerfox.

…it preserves a small amount of formatting from the original HTML (bold, italics, headings, paragraph breaks, etc.–but not fonts and colors) and links and images, whereas I believe Live Writerfox strips the HTML all the way into plaintext….

Live Writerfox

Blogging is a kind of leisure for some, and can be a kind of work for others. Earlier, Microsoft has introduced Windows Live Writer for people to publish blog posts. Windows Live Writer is a new desktop application for composing blog posts to your blog service. As most of us use Mozilla Firefox, isn’t it easier to do it directly from the browser? Live Writerfox 0.3 basically does that job.

Users can blog from Windows Live Writer using the Live Writerfox extension. User can make use of the application to blog a page or selected text to Windows Live Writer. The only requirement is that Windows Live Writer has to be installed on your machine. The latest release includes support for Firefox version 2.0.

Tab Effect 1.1 – A MUST HAVE Firefox Extension

Posted in Fun Stuff, Plugins, Site News, Utilities, Windows

Tab Effect

Never knew I might be fascinated by such a simple plugin for Firefox. Let me suggest this, Tab Effect is a must for you, if you are using Mozilla Firefox.

This extension is an add-on for Mozilla Firefox. However, it is only applicable to Firefox running on Windows platform. It simply adds a tab switching cube effect to the browser.

If you are still wondering how special that effect is, think of it as switching between desktops using Virtue Desktops for Mac or XGL/Compiz on Linux. The tab effect is very similar to the cube switching effect on those applications. The visual effect is smooth, however it is advised that a reasonable good video card is necessary. The motion will appear sluggish if you are using an old video card.

Version Changes

  • - Fixed: URL bar dropdown menu is displaced out.
  • - Fixed: Browser crashing.

Note that, this is only available on Windows, require users to be running DirectX version 8 and above. It works on Firefox versions 1.1.x – 2.0.x.
