UnChrome 1.1 - Remove Your Identity

Posted in Fun Stuff, Software Companies, Utilities, Windows

The recent release of Google Chrome to the World Wide Web (WWW) has created a big hoo-haa as a lot of users have rushed to download and try out the new application (for free). According to Google,

“…Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier…”

However, what users do not realise is that each Google Chrome installation contains a unique ID, thereby each computer has a unique “thumbprint” to identify the user. Even if two systems are installing from the same setup file, the identity is different, due to its underlying hidden algorithm that is obscured from users’ knowledge. Don’t forget, Google is exceptionally clever in data collection.

CPU-Z 1.43 - from CPUID - Released

Posted in Fun Stuff, Site News, Utilities, Windows

CPU-ZCPU-Z is a small, yet extremely useful utility. The recent release encompasses several supports for new processors, for example

  • * Intel Skulltrail platform support (Core 2 Extreme QX9775 + 5400B MCH).
  • * Intel X48 chipset detection.
  • * AMD Athlon 64-LE 1600 and 1620 support.
  • * Fix detection issues on unlocked Phenom (ES/BE).

Hosted by CPUID, this small utility provides a rather informative data about your motherboard, memory and graphics card. One instance is that you can find out the speed of your RAM, e.g. PC-2700 or PC-2100, or the chipset of your microprocessor.

The good thing is that CPU-Z does not need to be installed. Simply unzip the files in a directory and run the .exe program (see screenshot). To remove the program, users only need to remove the entire directory.

Recommended Software of the Week - Picasa 2

Posted in Fun Stuff, Graphics, Site News, Utilities, Web Apps, Windows

Picasa

Picasa 2 was initially developed by Google three years ago and released as a free software. In spite of this, Picasa is still one of the most popular and useful photo album around to manage photos and pictures located in the PC’s hard disk drive.

Picasa is not just a image library, it also include editing tools for enhancing photo images. For example, Fill Light is a tuning tool that brightens or darkens picture that contains dark backgrounds (e.g. someone with his back to the sun).

Picasa is definitely recommended software of the week. You should have it as long as you have digital photos and purchasing professional softwares, such as Adobe Photoshop, become expensive.
