Mozilla Firefox 3.0.6

Posted in Fun Stuff, Linux, Mac OS, Site News, Solaris, Web Apps, Windows

All of us might be waiting for the newest version of Mozilla Firefox to be released, however it still does not beat the current stable (official) version of Firefox 3.0.6. The main reason is that there are still plugins that are currently not supported by the latest version of Firefox 3.1.x.

Firefox is one of the most popular web browsers, commonly used by computer users in the world. I guess it needs no introduction. Generally, the following are the changes in this version:

  • # Fixed several security issues.
  • # Fixed several stability issues.
  • # In previous versions of Firefox, some users experienced a problem where parts of the screen were not properly displaying after Firefox was open for long periods of time.
  • # Improved the ability for scripted commands (including those included in popular extensions like Adblock Plus) to work properly with plugins.
  • # Removed the client user ID from crash reports.
  • # Fixed issues with the display of some Indic scripts.

WordPress 2.7.1 RC 1 Released

Posted in Beta, Business Software, Fun Stuff, Linux, Mac OS, Site News, Software Companies, Solaris, Web Apps, Windows

Ryan Boren’s email has revealed that WordPress 2.7.1 RC 1 is made available to the public. This was announced earlier than expected, as the release is still not announced formally at the main page of WordPress. Based on the information, the following issues have been fixed:

  • * URL column in Edit Links removes www. from domains that end in www
  • * Theme preview fails when theme in subdirectory
  • * “Draft Saved” current_time not reflecting timezone setting in the edit area
  • * Revisions do not respect time zone offset
  • * Canonical redirect of feed URLs with suffixes is wrong
  • * index.php file in the plugins folder makes the Dashboard fail

In spite of this, WordPress users are still unable to utilise the Upgrade functionality on the WordPress software to automatically upgrade to this release candidate version. However, it isn’t too bad either, to just wait a couple more days for the final (stable) version to be available.

However, if you still bend on getting your hands onto the latest release, you can download from the link below. Just note that, it is important to avoid deploying on production machines.

Filezilla 3.2.0 Released

Posted in Business Software, Development Software, Fun Stuff, Linux, Mac OS, Site News, Software Companies, Solaris, Web Apps, Windows

Filezilla is one of the most popular and widely-used FTP applications. Despite it being an open-source program, it has surpassed its expectation by many users such that even some enterprises are using them as part of their work.

There are two kinds of Filezilla programs – one as a Client, and secondly as a Server. The client application is mainly by end users to connect up to the server to upload and download files to and from the destination. The server is the centralised location that stores the file.

The latest version of Filezilla Client 3.2.0 has just been released with several enhancements and improvements towards the earlier version.

Pidgin 2.5.3

Posted in Fun Stuff, Linux, Web Apps, Windows

The widely-popular universal Internet Messaging (IM) client, Pidgin 2.5.3, is now released. This application supports several protocols, such as MSN, Yahoo!, Google Talk, QQ and ICQ. There is also a portable version available for users to download and install on removable drives, i.e. Pidgin 2.5.3 Portable.

Having used this software myself for quite a long period of time, I have to admit that it has rarely failed me. If this were to be used solely for basic messaging, it’s a fantastic piece of application. For more advanced features, such as webcam, perhaps it’s better to stick to the original software, such as Windows Live Messenger, or Yahoo! Messenger.

It also runs on Linux platform, thus makes it highly portable. Interested users can download the application from the link below.

Google Chrome Drops Beta Tag

Posted in Fun Stuff, Site News, Web Apps, Windows

Google Chrome has finally hit the public without the Beta tag! The latest version is 1.0.154.39. However, you would probably not have noticed it, as the upgrade was done automatically by the system in the background.

Some unknown source reports that this release of Google Chrome has seen its performance improved by 1.5 times compared to its initial beta release. Considered that Google is truly serious about the web browser market, this is indeed remarkable.

Drupal Releases Version 6.8 and 5.14

Posted in Business Software, Linux, Site News, Web Apps

DrupalThe last release of Drupal 6.6 was dated 2 months back. Just only a few days ago, Drupal released version 6.7 and 5.13. I have a few Drupal-based websites, but due to my busy schedule, I have hold on to the upgrading process. Just only yesterday, Drupal 6.8 and 5.14 were released! Luckily for me that I have not done the immediate upgrade, or otherwise I would have wasted my effort.

In Drupal 6.8 and Drupal 5.14, these are only slight updates to Drupal 6.7 and 5.13, removing an incompatibility with sites running before PHP version 5.2. The major and critical vulnerabilities and security issues have been fixed in the earlier version, so this release is only a minor patch.
